Inter have given an update on the update on the fitness of midfielder Roberto Gagliardini, confirming that the 27-year-old suffered a knee injury in training.

In a statement release’ on the club’s official homepage, it is confirmed that the Italian midfielder suffered a sprain to his MCL while twisting his knee in training, a fact which was revealed after an MRI on his knee.

It is not yet known how serious the injury is or what length of time it will likely be before he can recover back to full fitness, although the club states that he will be reassessed sometime next week.

The Nerazzurri are not light in the midfield area heading into next season, with the stricken Christian Eriksen replaced by new signing Hakan Calhanoglu and a number of options that head coach Simone Inzaghi can call upon in the positions.

However, Gagliardini is still set to play a role and the club will hope that he is not ruled out for much or any of the season through injury.
