New Inter signing Hakan Calhanoglu has received praise for his performance during yesterday’s 6-0 win against Crotone in a pre-season friendly.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport give an appraisal of what the Turkish midfielder’s role will be in the Nerazzurri team during the upcoming season, and praise the suitability shown by the player.
Calhanoglu arrived earlier in the summer from city rivals AC Milan, and he is expected to be an important midfield option for head coach Simone Inzaghi, although it remains to be seen exactly what role he will be given.
“We can see the project of adding depth and verticality with Lukaku at the finish,” the Corriere wrote of the style of play shown by the Nerazzurri against Crotone, pointing out the new arrival’s role in instigating the new style in midfield.
The Nerazzurri’s counter-attacking style under Antonio Conte looks set to change in subtle ways under his successor, though it remains to be seen exactly how this will be.
However, it looks likely that Calhanoglu will be one of the players trusted to execute the new coach’s vision of football.
