Inter’s Matias Vecino is at the top of Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti’s preferred target in midfield as the Partenopei search for central reinforcements, but the Nerazzurri want to keep him.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi likes the Uruguayan and wants to have him available next season.

Napoli are in search of a midfielder for next season, with Tiemoue Bakayoko having returned to Chelsea after last season’s loan and Diego Demme not expected to return from an injury until September at the earliest.

The Partenopei are considering a number of targets, including the likes of Sampdoria’s Morten Thorsby, AZ’s Teun Koopmeiners, Hoffenheim’s Florian Grillitsch, and Sheffield United’s Sander Berge.

However, top of their list is Vecino, with head coach Spalletti seeking a reunion with the player with whom he spent two seasons together when he was Nerazzurri manager.

The Partenopei are serious about their interest, but could find the player very difficult to sign, with the midfielder content to stay at the Giuseppe Meazza and the club planning to keep him in the squad for Inzaghi next season.
