Inter’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez is facing a race to get himself fit for Inter’s first game of the new Serie A campaign because Lautaro Martinez will be suspended, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Tuttosport, Alexis Sanchez would be first in line to start the season opener against Genoa at the San Siro because of the suspension that is keeping Romelu Lukaku’s normal strike partner, Lautaro Martinez, out of contention.

He will only get this opportunity to impress though if he can recover from the calf injury that he sustained at Copa America whilst playing for Chile.

The ex-Manchester United, Arsenal, and Barcelona forward was seen training in the gym at Appiano Gentile yesterday along with fellow Chilean Arturo Vidal, Matias Vecino, Romelu Lukaku, and Ivan Perisic.

Alexis Sanchez’s injury problems have blighted his time with the Nerazzurri but Simone Inzaghi still believes he can be a key player.
