Inter striker Alexis Sanchez could be fit in time for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener against Genoa on August 21, and could start the match in lieu of the suspended Lautaro Martinez.

This according to today’s print edition for Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the club are hoping to have the Chilean available for selection as they open up their league campaign.

Martinez will miss the Genoa match through suspended, having picked up his fifth yellow card at the end of last season and having his suspension carry over into the beginning of the season upcoming.

Sanchez is the most obvious replacement for the Argentine in the team, although with the 32-year-old having struggled with injury problems the past few months including missing much of the Copa America with Chile, his availability has been a doubt.

However, the player has been given a personalized training regimen by the club which they hope will see him prepared to play from the beginning against Il Griffone at the Giuseppe Meazza in three weeks’ time, and could allow him to rest for all or most of the remaining pre-season friendly in order to make sure he is ready.
