Former defender Massimo Brambati has given his predictions on the upcoming Scudetto race, positioning Inter as the favourites to win Serie A again but suggesting that they will have a harder time of it than last season.

Speaking to TMW Radio, as reported by FCInter1908, the 55-year-old opined that Juventus in particular among the Nerazzurri’s rivals have closed the gap on last year’s champions compared to the convincing margin by which the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto in the end last season.

This summer has seen upheaval among the top clubs in Serie A, with a number of clubs changing managers, including both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

Inter have parted ways with Antonio Conte and replaced him with former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi, while Juventus have sacked Andrea Pirlo after only one season in charge to bring back former head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

There can be no guarantees about the fortunes of either club headed into the season, but for Brambati the likeliest outcome will be that the Nerazzurri can maintain their strength and momentum from the past season, while the Bianconeri will return to challenging for the title after last season’s fourth place finish, a disappointment by their recent standards.

“For me, Inter remains one of the favourites, along with Juventus, who have gotten very close especially with the appointment of Allegri. The squad was already strong last year, Allegri can re-evaluate some elements.”
