Inter will target Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata and Roma’s Edin Dzeko should Romelu Lukaku complete a move to Chelsea this week.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, Lukaku is closing in on a return to the Premier League and Inter have already begun the search for his successor, although they are limited by financial constraints.

CEO Beppe Marotta has already contacted Atalanta to begin negotiations for Colombia international Zapata but are some way short of La Dea’s €40 million asking price.

Inter are hoping to bring the cost down to closer to €30m and Marotta may use a failed attempt to sign Dejan Kulusevski in January 2020, in which the Swede opted for Juventus despite Inter having an agreement with the club, as leverage.

Any deal would also be dependent on Atalanta securing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham as a replacement for Zapata though.

A more economically attainable option for Inter is Dzeko, but Roma are reluctant to sell the 35-year-old with the Serie A season just two weeks away from starting. The Bosnia international would be open to joining Inter after coming close in January and would seek a two-year contract.

Torino striker Andrea Belotti is not thought to be a likely candidate to replace Lukaku, despite only having a year left on his deal with the Granata, and Inter are instead considering Lazio’s Felipe Caicedo and Andrea Petagna of Napoli.
