Midfielder Nahitan Nandez refused to travel with the Cagliari squad as he attempted to force their hand, with negotiations over a move to Inter ongoing.

According to L’Interista.it, the Uruguay international was called up to participate in a preseason friendly against La Liga club Mallorca today, but failed to turn up at the airport ahead of their flight to Spain.

Nandez took the extraordinary step as he tries to push through a move to Inter, having felt that Cagliari are reneging on a promise made to him earlier in the summer.

The former Boca Juniors midfielder believes that Cagliari had agreed to allow him to join Inter on an initial loan with an obligation to buy next summer, whilst the Sardinian club are pushing for an immediate sale without a loan.

Nandez has scored four goals in 72 appearances for Cagliari since arriving in 2019, and has been targeted by Inter as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi.
