Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan is still likely to return to former club Cagliari this summer, as the Nerazzurri seek an agreement to loan him back to the Sardinians.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the former Belgium international has no future at Inter and the club are keen to offload him back to Cagliari, where he has spent the majority of the past two seasons.
The Nerazzurri are hoping to avoid terminating the final year of Nainggolan’s contract and pay a hefty fee, with their preference to send him back out on loan in order to reduce the costs.
It had been expected that Nainggolan would be used as a makeweight in Inter’s approach for Isolani midfielder Nahitan Nandez, covering part of the cost of a loan with an obligation to buy. The newspaper suggests that the deal is now in doubt though, and Inter may only focus on PSV Eindhoven’s Denzel Dumfries.
Regardless of whether Nandez joins, Nainggolan’s move to Cagliari is thought to be secure and is not related to the success of an approach for the Uruguayan.
Inter had received an approach from Turkish champions Besiktas to take Nainggolan on loan, but the former Roma midfielder rejected the move and is set on returning to Cagliari.
