Inter are set to swoop for Roma striker Edin Dzeko to replace Romelu Lukaku, allowing them to step up their approach for PSV Eindhoven wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have decided on Dzeko for his experience and leadership in attack, whilst he has the added advantage of being available at an extremely low cost.

The Bosnia international can be released from Roma on a free transfer or for a manageable compensation fee of €2 million, with the Giallorossi holding an agreement that they will allow him to leave if he receives a multi-year offer from elsewhere.

Inter have proposed a two-year contract worth €5m per year and remain confident that Dzeko will arrive, whilst the low cost operation will have a wider reaching impact.

By opting for Dzeko instead of a more expensive option such as Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata, Inter have funds available from Lukaku’s sale to Chelsea to finalise a move for Dumfries at right wing-back.

The Netherlands international is determined to join the Nerazzurri and the club hope to conclude a deal this week, with Inter ready to submit a bid of €13-15m.

This is likely to officially spell the end of Inter’s interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, with the Nerazzurri only look at one of him or Dumfries. However, work to send Radja Nainggolan back to Sardinia could open up the possibility of an exchange of loans before the end of the transfer window.
