New Roma coach Jose Mourinho is keen to retain striker Edin Dzeko, but there is an agreement in place that could allow the veteran to join Inter this summer.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have identified Dzeko as a replacement for Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku and have offered him a two-year contract.

Mourinho considers the 35-year-old as being part of his plans for his maiden season at the Stadio Olimpico, but if Dzeko expresses a desire to join Inter then Roma will not stand in his way.

Whilst Dzeko is yet to confirm his intention to move to the Nerazzurri, Roma director Tiago Pinto has a verbal agreement with the player that would allow him to depart should he receive a multi-year contract proposal from elsewhere.

The former Manchester City striker is entering the final year of his existing deal at Roma and Pinto will meet with agent Alessandro Lucci following the Giallorossi’s return from a preseason camp in Portugal today.

Should Dzeko complete a switch to Inter, Roma will turn their attention to Torino captain Andrea Belotti or Benfica forward Haris Seferovic.
