Tottenham Hotspur are ready to challenge Premier League rivals Leicester City for Inter centre-back Stefan De Vrij, according to British media.

As reported by UK tabloid The Express, Leicester are looking to strengthen ahead of the new Premier League season by challenging for Netherlands international De Vrij, as they seek to build on last term’s FA Cup success.

The Foxes have so far failed to strike an agreement with De Vrij’s agent, Mino Raiola, potentially allowing Spurs to enter the race and swoop for the 29-year-old.

After completing the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta, Tottenham are looking to add to their defensive options and are in talks for Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, but there is a fear that they could miss out to North London rivals Arsenal.

As a result, new sporting director Fabio Paratici is closely monitoring Leicester’s discussions for De Vrij and could move to overtake them if they fail to make a breakthrough this week.

Inter are reported to value De Vrij at £38 million, but the Express suggest that this fee could be negotiated down to £28m plus bonuses.
