Midfielder Christian Eriksen could leave Inter to re-join former club Ajax.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Dane wants to make a return to football, and may not be able to in Italy pending medical tests, so would consider a return to Ajax.

Eriksen is still recovering from the cardiac arrest which he suffered while playing in Denmark’s EURO 2020 opener against Finland, and his future in football is still up in the air.

Medical tests are expected to reveal whether or not he will be eligible to return to the pitch for Inter, with the Italian FA not permitting players permanently fitted with ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrulator) devices not permitted to play for health and safety reasons.

Should the 29-year-old’s implament prove to need to be permanent, he could seek a move away from the Nerazzurri to play, with Ajax a possible destination.

Ajax defender Daley Blind already has the ICD device on a full-time basis, and Eriksen could join him.

It is premature to speculate whether the midfielder will make the switch at least until more is revealed by the outcome of medical tests, but should he be ineligible to continue playing in Italy he is strongly considering a move to the club which he left in 2013 to join Tottenham.
