Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi does not believe that Inter will be favourites to defend their Scudetto crown this season, but also does not rule them out.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the Bianconeri legend suggested that his former club should be considered the favourites to win the league, but does not consider the Nerazzurri to be out of the race by any means.

Despite the dominant fashion in which Inter won last season’s Serie A season, finishing the season twelve points clear of their closest rivals in the table, a summer of upheaval for the club has led many observers to question whether they will be strong enough to win the Scudetto again.

The departures of head coach Antonio Conte and key players Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku are blows to the team which could lead to enough of a dropoff that a resurgent Juventus or another club could finish on top this season.

However, there is no guarantee of this, with newly-appointed head coach Simone Inzaghi and several new signings ready to prove their worth and fight for the title.

“[Juventus] are certainly the favourites for the league. But I would not take Inter for dead,” he said.

He continued, “I know [Inter CEO Beppe] Marotta, he has already signed Dzeko and will make the team strong, with a major coach, perfect for the post-Conte era: tough and hungry.”
