Inter are monitoring the situation of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, who they hope to sign for free next summer when his contract runs out.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the Nerazzurri are in continued contact with the Cameroonian and his agent about a move next summer when they could make him the long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic.

Onana’s current deal with the Dutch champions is set to expire at the end of June 2022, and should he not agree on a renewal with his current club or be transferred this summer for a fee, he could become available as a free agent at that time.

The 25-year-old is liked as a long-term successor to Handanovic, who will remain as the first-choice keeper next season but is 37 and may not be relied on any longer than that.

Ajax are trying to offload the player this summer, though his situation is complicated by a doping ban which keeps him from appearing until November 4, but should he remain and run out his contract Inter will move for him, and they are already setting this operation up with the player and his entourage.
