Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has suffered a minor strain in his psoas muscle, with the tweak having been picked up in medical checks by Nerazzurri staff.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that the Argentine will be monitored as he recovers from the strain.

The 23-year-old would have missed the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener against Genoa on August 21 in any event, with a suspension keeping him out.

However, the club will hope that he can fully heal in time to make his return during the second league fixture, against Verona one week later.

In the meantime, Martinez is considered central to plans at the Giuseppe Meazza, and the club are working on extending his contract to take him another five years with the club, with the player also hoping to come to an agreement and to continue on with the Nerazzurri.
