Former Torino defender Massimo Brambati has questioned the role of Inter CEO Beppe Marotta in the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer business.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, as reported by L’Interista, the 55-year-old suggested that the CEO was not proactive enough in finding transfer revenues through the sales of less important squad members, and simply relied on major, damaging sales to meet financial targets during the summer transfer window.

Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku have both now been sold by the club, with their losses representing major blows to the club’s ambitions on the pitch, and as Brambati suggests, it was not hard to find a market for players of their quality.

For him, the issue with the Nerazzurri this summer was not just in the departures of these two major players, but also in the fact that so many inessential squad members remained, and in some cases even had their contracts renewed when it was not clear how much they could contribute next season.

“We are all capable of selling Lukaku and Hakimi,” said the former defender, aiming at Marotta, “The good ones sell Gagliardini and Vecino.”

Of some of the players who remained, he stated, “Then it’s madness to renew Ranocchia and Kolarov. Besides, they lost Conte.

“First take him to Inter, then you win the Scudetto and after that you let him escape? He should have acted as an intermediary.”
