Inter’s all but official new right-back Denzel Dumfries has been left out of Louis Van Gaal’s first Netherlands squad after being appointed coach once again, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by L’Interista, the Dutch defender won’t be taking part in The Netherland’s World Cup qualifier matches despite being a key part of the squad during Euro 2020 where he scored twice.

Denzel Dumfries has been pursued by Inter all summer but the finances were not available to the Nerazzurri to make the deal work. PSV Eindhoven only wanted a permanent transfer but Inter wanted to take him on loan.

The sale of Romelu Lukaku changed everything though and Inter now have a player who can be seen as a proper replacement for Achraf Hakimi who left for Paris Saint Germain earlier in the window.

Louis Van Gaal is now starting his second spell as coach of the national team.
