An ex-Inter midfielder has been discussing the situation that the club now finds itself in by going into a season with a new manager and having lost two of the best players that they have, according to a report in the Italian media.

In an interview with FCInter1908, Stephane Dalmat explained how he was surprised that Antonio Conte left the club in such an abrupt fashion but he could also see that something was not right between him and the ownership.

“For me it was a surprise in the middle of his farewell. Before winning the Scudetto I understood that there was something wrong between him and the club.”

Despite the disappointment of seeing Antonio Conte leave, Stephane Dalmat clearly feels that Simone Inzaghi is a good replacement for Inter.

“He did a great job at Lazio, he’s a good coach who has a great job ahead of him: to replace Conte and start over with a team that has lost its best player. But I’m confident and I’m sure he’ll do well.”

Inter have lost both Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi this summer, two players who were influential during the Scudetto winning campaign of 2020/21. For this reason, Stephane Dalmat believes it will be much harder for Inter to fight for the title again.

“Lukaku was important for the Scudetto victory and he made the team reach a high level. It will be difficult to replace him as well as Hakimi who had an extraordinary season. It will be more complicated fight for the Scudetto, but we must have faith in Simone Inzaghi.”

Stephane Dalmat made 48 Inter appearances between 2001 and 2005.
