Inter met with Atalanta for the first time today to discuss the possible signing of Duvan Zapata this summer.

This according to ESPN journalist Andres Agulla, who reported in a tweet that the Nerazzurri have held their first talks over the Colombian, but that his current club have no intention of selling him and that negotiations could be difficult.

Zapata is one of the main targets identified by the Nerazzurri in their search for a striker following the departure of Romelu Lukaku for Chelsea, and they are stepping up their pursuit for him.

The Nerazzurri made clear to Atalanta that they want to quickly accelerate the process of bringing the 30-year-old in, but they could struggle to convince the Bergamo-based side, who responded by stating that they have every intention of keeping him.

It remains to be seen if Inter can ramp up the discussions with Atalanta in time to complete Zapata’s signing before the end of the window or if they will have to pursue other targets instead.

Agulla’s tweet reads: “Today, first meeting in Milan for Duvan Zapata. Inter wants him now, Atalanta has no intention or need to sell him. It will be a tough negotiation.”
