Former AC Milan midfielder Mauro Tassotti believes that his former club will be able to challenge Inter and Juventus for the Scudetto this season, though the latter duo are still the favourites.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the 61-year-old gave his predictions for the upcoming Serie A season and rated the chances of some of the big teams.

The new season is only days away, and with it comes the Scudetto, with Inter heading into the season as the defending champions for the first time in eleven years.

Juventus will be the team looking to regain their crown having had a nine-season streak broken by the Nerazzurri last season, but as Tassotti points out, there are other clubs in the race too.

He identifies Inter’s city rivals as close to being able to contend, with the Rossoneri just behind the other two in his estimation.

“On paper, Inter and Juve are more ready,” he said, “but I would stop at these two. And in any case, they are not that superior to Milan.”

“As for the others,” Tassotti continued, “I don’t see the Rossoneri behind any of them, while last summer Milan could also have been placed behind Napoli and Roma.”

He closed his prediction by stating that “In short, the way last season went has an important weight. Milan have shown that they can also win important matches, such as against Juve and Atalanta. These are signs.”
