Inter could reach an agreement on a new contract for Lautaro Martinez today, with the strikers agent meeting with the club to discuss a renewal.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper la Repubblica, who report that the deal could take the Argentine’s wages to a net of €6 million per season, midway between the player and his agent’s demand of €7 million and the Nerazzurri’s initial offer of €5 million.
Martinez’s current deal expires at the end of June 2023 and Inter want to secure his future, with the player’s desire also to stay and agree a new deal.
The player wants a major salary increase to reflect his status as an important player to the Nerazzurri project, though how high the club will go remains to be seen.
The club cannot exploit the Growth Decree with the player’s wages, limiting the amount that they could offer, though they will still want to reward his performances and keep him happy with a substantial increase.
