Inter defender Milan Skriniar could be given the club captaincy after Samir Handanovic departs, with the Slovak a significant symbol in the eyes of Nerazzurri fans.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the 26-year-old’s loyalty is appreciated by supporters amid a period of upheaval and he could be set to be made the skipper.
Skriniar has been chosen as the player’s face to be used for the presale of tickets to the club’s Serie A opener against Genoa at the San Siro, a massive occasion given that it will be the first game at the stadium with fans in attendance since lockdown began.
The defender has made 167 appearances in all competitions for Inter since joining from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017, and his loyalty to the club despite having faced offers from Barcelona, Tottenham, and Roma has endeared him to supporters.
With the player’s popularity among fans and long-term commitment to the club, it could well be the case that he is soon made club captain.
