Former Fiorentina midfielder Giovanni Tedesco believes that new Inter signing Edin Dzeko has the right qualities to make a positive impact with the Nerazzurri this season.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb.com, the 49-year-old acknowledged that the loss of Romelu Lukaku is a significant blow to the Nerazzurri’s ambitions, but praised Dzeko, with the Bosnian the first player brought in to try and replace Lukaku.

Inter wasted no time in bringing in Dzeko after Lukaku’s departure, and the 35-year-old will provide a reliable profile in front of goal and in bringing teammates into play, or at least this is the hope of the club in signing him.

Tedesco, who played for a number of Serie A clubs during his playing days, believes that the Italian top flight is in a difficult period for economic reasons, and that the loss of Lukaku reflects this, but he is also a fan of the choice of Dzeko to replace the Belgian from within the league.

Of Lukaku’s sale, he stated, “It reflects the trend of the crisis in our country. The clubs are in a difficult period, influenced by the pandemic. There is a downsizing.”

On Dzeko, he said, “He is a good player. He will be able to do well.”
