Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has given his thoughts on last season’s Scudetto triumph, and on how he looks forward to having the support of fans in the stadiums again this season.

Quoted in the matchday program for tomorrow’s Serie A opener against Genoa at the San Siro, the 22-year-old talks about what it means to have won the Italian title and about the relationship with fans.

The Nerazzurri have had to play in front of empty stands since the beginning of the global pandemic, while supporters have only been able to watch the team play on a screen.

The first Scudetto win in eleven years has helped to cheer Inter fans up, but there can be little doubt that watching the triumphant campaign in mostly-silent stadiums did not have the same feeling as watching it live and in person.

Bastoni’s words reflect this, and also show his excitement to be able to perform in front of supportive crowds again.

“The Scudetto was fantastic,” the defenders states in the program, ” but we would have enjoyed it even more with the fans. But in those moments outside San Siro, they have given us all their love and affection.”
