Inter captain and goalkeeper Samie Handanovic has explained how much of a lift to gives the Inter players to have fans back in the stadium, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking to Inter’s official TV channel, Inter TV, before the opening Serie A fixture against Genoa, the Slovenian goalkeeper showed just how excited and please he is to see even just some fans back in San Siro to cheer the team on.

“We are happy with the presence of the fans, football is theirs and for the players it’s better to have them in the stands.”

The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who is now the player in the division with the most appearances out of anyone, also explained how the Inter squad has even more desire this season than they did going into the previous campaign where they won the Scudetto.

“The desire is always there, last year we won and now there is more desire.”

Samir Handanovic is also clearly wary of Inter starting slowly and thinking they will not be punished for it by Genoa. He feels that Inter must show that they have been preparing well for the game.

“The first few days are always like this, we must not take anything for granted. But what we do is important, what we have prepared. We must show it in the match.”
