Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez will not be leaving the club this summer but Romelu Lukaku did want to leave, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN before the opening Serie A game against Genoa, Beppe Marotta put Inter fans’ minds at rest in regard to the future of Lautaro Martinez who has been linked with a move away.

Despite what many people thought, Beppe Marotta has made it clear that the Argentine striker never wanted to leave the club.

“He is one of those players who explicitly wanted to stay with us, despite having had offers from other clubs. We are proud, there is a great desire to improve, he wants to prove that he is the champion he showed, we are confident that he can do it.”

Beppe Marotta then explained that the club are still actively looking at signing another striker to help replace Romelu Lukaku who left for Chelsea late in the window.

“Another striker? We are looking for it. We are sure to make the best choice, but I want to be optimistic and I want to reassure our fans. We have to give our best, only in this way will we take away some satisfactions.”

It is looking very likely that Inter will sign Marcus Thuram from Borussia Mönchengladbach to help replace Romelu Lukaku, and Lazio’s Joaquin Correa is also a possible option for the Nerazzurri.
