The director of sport at German side Borussia Mönchengladbach has explained that the injury picked up by Marcus Thuram on Saturday evening will make any negotiations around a transfer much be more difficult to complete, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking after the 4-0 defeat that Borussia Mönchengladbach suffered away at Bayer Leverkusen, with quotes reported by FCInter1908, Max Eberl explained how the injury will be an obstacle but regardless of that, he wants to keep Marcus Thuram at the club.

“I think that, when things like this happen, it’s an obstacle to negotiations. We still wouldn’t want to give him up regardless. We want to keep the best players, and he’s one of them.”

Despite being clear on how much he wants the Frenchman to stay, he did not shy away from the fact that Inter have already made an offer for the son of ex-Parma and Juventus player Lillian Thuram.

“At the moment I don’t know if the problem Thuram has had could affect his transfer. What I can say is that there is an offer, this that’s correct.”

The player will undergo tests on Monday to determine the extent of the injury but it could be ligament damage in the knee, which can keep players out of the game for months.
