Ex-Inter midfielder Lothar Matthaus has been discussing Inter transfer target Marcus Thuram who could be signed as the final piece of Inter’s complicated transfer window, according to a report in the German broadcast media.

Whilst speaking to Sky Deutschland, with quotes reported by FCInter1908, the ex-Germany midfielder explained that Marcus Thuram would do well in Italy even though it would be a big step forward for him.

“It would be a step forward for him. It would be a higher level. Inter are in the Champions League, they have many fans, the stadium is gigantic. It seems to me that everything is a bit bigger than in Mönchengladbach. He has the talent to do well in Italy.”

Despite Lothar Matthaus’s promising comments in relation to the player, the potentially serious knee injury that he picked up against Bayer Leverkusen during Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 4-0 defeat on Saturday evening seems to have brought negotiations to a premature end.

Inter will not want to pay nearly €30 million for a forward who will be injured for potentially most of the 2021/22 season. If the tests he will undergo on Monday show minimal damage, perhaps Inter will enter talk again.

The German club appears adamant he will be staying.
