An ex-Inter defender has heaped praise upon his old team after their impressive 4-0 opening day victory over Genoa at San Siro, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
Speaking during an interview with the Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, Daniele Adani focused on the attitude that the Inter players showed during the game. He believes that this was key to the fast start that saw Inter go 2-0 inside the first 15 minutes of the game.
“Taking the lead at the start will also have helped, but I was struck by the desire to regain the lost ball immediately and to play forward on the second ball. You can afford it when you are physically very well. Then I also saw a fluid and creative Inter in the game, facilitated by the setting of the three central players behind.”
There was also a specific focus from Daniele Adani on the contribution of Arturo Vidal, who the club would ideally sell this summer due to the high wages that the Chilean earns. He came on in the 69th minute and scored Inter’s third goal before setting up the fourth for Edin Dzeko.
“An unexpected impact, in the only portion of the match in which Genoa was trying to react. If you come off the bench and play like this, it means that the attitude is the right one.”
Another element of the game that pleased Daniele Adani was the impact that two of the new players made straight away. Edin Dzeko and Hakan Calhanoglu were instrumental in the win.
“A goal and an assist for Dzeko, a goal and an assist for Calhanoglu. Here, the Turk has remained on the values seen in the last period at Milan. I don’t know if he can be Simone Inzaghi’s new Luis Alberto, but compared to a few years ago he has gained self-esteem, confidence in the shots he has in the repertoire.”
