Inter focused their both attacking and general play down the middle of the pitch more against Genoa than they did two years ago in Antonio Conte’s first game in charge, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi clearly felt his strongest players were in the middle of the park against Genoa whereas Antonio Conte put more emphasis on the wing play.

In Antonio Conte’s very first competitive Inter game, the Nerazzurri beat Lecce 4-0. There are lots of other similarities between the 4-0 win over Genoa on Saturday and the Lecce game in August 2019.

In that game though, Antonio Conte made more use out of Antonio Candreva and Kwadwo Asamoah on the wings than Simone Inzaghi did with Matteo Darmian and Ivan Perisic.

This is likely down to the attacking intent shown by Stefano Sensi and Hakan Calhanoglu who were playing in the middle of the pitch.
