Cagliari head coach Leonardo Semplici is counting on Nahitan Nandez, but believes that the Inter-linked midfielder could still get a transfer away from the Rossoblu before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to DAZN before the Rossoblu’s match today against Spezia, the Cagliari manager stated that he is not sure whether the Uruguayan will be at Cagliari for much longer, but that he will work with the player for as long as he is, and that he is still fully integrated in the squad.

Nandez had reportedly been close to a move to Inter after the Nerazzurri had been pursuing him for much of the summer and came close to reaching an agreement with his club on a move.

However, Cagliari pulled the plug on a move after the Nerazzurri would not meet their valuation for the player, and he remains with the Sardinians despite having reached an agreement on personal terms with Inter and informed his current club of his intention to leave.

He still wants an Inter move, but Semplici emphasizes that “He has never been out of the squad, because he has always trained with us.”

“There were some misunderstandings,” the coach emphasized, “but he apologized to the club, the squad, and above all to the President, so he is still with us.”

“He is a player of great quality so he will start from the first minute,” Semplici added.

As to whether the Rossoblu would bring in a new signing, Semplici stated, “I don’t know. I hope so, I hope so because there are so many rumours about [Nandez]. In the meantime, let’s think about today, which is the most important aspect.”
