Alexis Sanchez will remain an Inter player despite reports that he could terminate his contract with the club over his persistent injury issues.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that regardless of the outcome of assessments on his conditions the Chilean will stay on with the Nerazzurri.

Sanchez is set to return to Inter’s training centre after having a calf injury assessed in Barcelona, though it is not clear what the recovery timeline from the knock is beyond that it will rule him out for a few more weeks at least.

The 32-year-old has had difficulty with the injury for much of the summer, having also been ruled out of all but 45 minutes of the Copa America with Chile, and he will miss at least the Nerazzurri’s clash with Verona on Friday and the World Cup qualifiers with his country during the international break while he continues to recover.

It had been reported that a termination of contract by mutual agreement could be sought due to the injury problems, but the player will in fact remain with Inter even if a replacement is brought in.
