An Italian football journalist has explained that the two best Inter players in the resounding 4-0 win over Genoa were actually the two newest players on the pitch, Edin Dzeko and Hakan Calhanoglu, according to a report in the Italian media.

Writing in his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport, football journalist Luigi Garlando showed just how impressed he was with the way that Inter went about their opening game of the season where they dismantled Genoa with fluid attacking play.

Luigi Garlando stated that the game signified the definitive end of the Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku era at the club and signified the beginning of a new era that involves Simone Inzaghi and Edin Dzeko.

“Inter-Genoa was a match full of meanings, which closed the Conte-Lukaku era and opened the new one of Simone Inzaghi and Dzeko.”

The journalist went on to say that the two best players were the new signings. Edin Dzeko and Hakan Calhanoglu both scored a goal and set up another one each. Their link-up play was excellent throughout.

“The best players were two new signings, Calhanoglu and Dzeko. The former AC Milan player served up the corner for Skriniar’s first goal, and scored the beautiful second.”
