Inter had been interested in signing Chelsea forward Timo Werner, but the German decided to stay at Chelsea rather than joining the Nerazzurri.

This according to Christian Falk, journalist for German tabloid Bild, who reported in a tweet that the Nerazzurri had considered bringing the 25-year-old in but that his preference was to remain with his current club.

The blockbuster sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea not only left Inter without their star centre-forward, but also meant that the Blues are now well-stocked in the attacking department.

Having Werner go the other way to find success in Serie A could have been seen as a logical part of the Lukaku operation, with the former RB Leipzig man yet to experience the form at Stamford Bridge which he showed while playing in Germany.

However, in the end the player rejected the possibility of leaving for Inter, according to the Bild journalist.

Falk’s tweet reads: “Inter was interested in Timo Werner, but Werner decided to stay at Chelsea.”
