Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal has given an update on the situation of his teammate for club and country Alexis Sanchez, who he explained will not be participating in international duty due to his need to recover from an injury.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports, as reported by FCInterNews, the Chilean midfielder stated that Sanchez will be in Italy continuing with his recover rather than being involved in the national team setup over the international break.

Sanchez has been recovering from a persistent calf injury which also ruled him out of all but 45 minutes of the Copa America with his country over the summer.

The knock has also meant that he has missed the first two Serie A fixtures of the Nerazzurri’s season, and the timeline for his return to the pitch is unclear.

Vidal stressed that his main concern right now is getting back to full fitness so that he can go on to contribute at both club and international level.

“He worked hard at Copa America to be there,” Vidal explained, “Alexis will stay in Italy and will try to recover so that he can train at his pace, and then have him 100% for the national team.”
