Former Fiorentina Director Antonio Di Gennaro believes that Inter have a winnable Champions League group after the club’s fate was determined in yesterday’s group stage draw.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, reported by FCInterNews, the Italian gave his thoughts on the quality of Group D, containing the Nerazzurri as well as the likes of Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsky, and Sheriff Tiraspol.

Inter will meet two of the teams who they faced off against in last season’s group stage, from which they failed to progress, with Real Madrid and Shakhtar both coming up as opponents alongside Champions League debutants Sheriff.

As with the Nerazzurri, both clubs have changed their managers this summer, with Real re-appointing Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti, and Shakhtar bringing in former Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Di Gennaro acknowledges that both of these teams will provide formidable opposition for Inter, but believes that the Nerazzurri should have what it takes to progress out of this group.

“Good for me,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s draw, “even if we will have to challenge De Zerbi. Yesterday he progressed from the playoff round in a tense way, but I would say deservedly also looking at the first leg. Real Madrid is always strong.”
