Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi warns his former club not to take any of their Champions League group stage matches for granted, with Shakhtar Donetsk in particular singled out as difficult opponents.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former Nerazzurri captain gave his view that Inter could face a tough group stage after drawing the likes of Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Sheriff Tiraspol in yesterday’s draw for the competition.

Two of the opponents that the Nerazzurri will encounter this season are coincidentally those who they faced off against in last year’s group stage of the competition, Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk, while Sheriff are Champions League debutants.

Last season the Nerazzurri drew against Shakhtar twice, and lost twice to Real, and Bergomi emphasizes that the former in particular could be a serious challenges who the club will have to take completely serious if they wish to progress.

“I would rate Inter’s group at 7,” he said in terms of scoring the group’s difficulty, “Going to Ukraine to play is never easy, and Shakhtar are dangerous.”
