Inter didn’t have the best of starts on the first away trip this season, but new signing Joaquin Correa secured a late victory at the Stadio Bentegodi.

After a calm first 15 mins, Samir Handanovic opened up the game with a wayward pass that was intercepted and Verona were ahead with their first shot on goal.

The midfield lost the plot and forgot their lines but Simone Inzaghi reorganised his troops at half time to make it two wins out of two in Serie A this season:

Samir Handanovic – 4: Another game at the Bentegodi, another massive mistake from Samir. Had virtually nothing else to do all game. Poor passing let him down throughout.

Milan Skriniar – 6: Started the game very well but when Verona blocked all the passing out of defence he was under a lot of pressure. Slowly regained his territory.

Stefan De Vrij – 6: The only defender who was calm in the first half. Didn’t take any risks and kept on playing his game. Never caught out and won the important duels.

Alessandro Bastoni – 5.5: Didn’t look on it and struggled to keep the ball moving when Inter were in control as well. That shot on goal was fantastic and helped his confidence.

Mattia Darmian – 6.5: Tried to use the space offered on the wings but got it right when it mattered with an assist. Did very well defensively and made some good tackles.

Nicolo Barella – 6: Very few midfielders can provide quality and quantity on the ball and without it. Lost his way a bit in the first half. Bossed the game as a regista.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5: Yes, the pass from Samir was not great but Brozo seemed to try the most difficult passes tonight. Didn’t take the simple option and got into trouble.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 5.5: Went missing after the first 10 mins or so, partly due to the fact that his team couldn’t find him at all. Once Vidal came on, Hakan clicked into gear.

Ivan Perisic – 5.5: Had a little success with getting the ball and trying to cross it in. The crosses didn’t find any Inter players and then he had to rush back a lot to defend.

Edin Dzeko – 5.5: Last weekend against Genoa we saw the best of what Dzeko can do. Tonight, however his passing was wayward, and he was not effective off the ball.

Lautaro Martinez – 6.5: Making his season debut today and as usual he ran himself into the ground. The quality wasn’t there but when the chance came, he made it count.

Arturo Vidal – 6.5: Whatever they did to Vidal at the Appiano in the summer seems to have awoken the beast of a player Vidal was. All round impact in his 25 mins.

Federico Dimarco – 6: Came on and immediately took control of the left wing. Looks much quicker and more decisive than Perisic at the moment. Hopefully he starts next time.

Joaquin Correa – 7.5: Talk about impact off the bench. Inzaghi insisted that Correa was the cherry on top of the cake before kickoff and was proved 100% right. Clutch.

Stefano Sensi – N/A: Thrown on for Dzeko as Inzaghi wanted an extra man in midfield for the last five minutes. Ran a lot into empty channels to trouble the Verona defence.

Matias Vecino – N/A: Just like Sensi, Matias was thrown on to bring more physicality in midfield. Made a mess of the counterattack at 2-1 but did what was needed.

Simone Inzaghi – 6.5: The game started according to plan and after giving away a gift of a goal the first half was a write off. Made the right subs and got three important points.

Gianluca Manganiello – 6.5: Missed a card on the studs up foul on Skriniar but other than that did a decent job. Didn’t let the game get out of control. Kept it simple throughout.

Inter – 6.5: When your captain gifts a goal like this, it feels like a sucker punch. The team had to get together at half time and change whatever wasn’t working.
