Italian journalist Fabio Caressa thinks that Inter only have a 60% chance of progressing from their Champions League group.

As seen in a post on Caressa’s Instagram page yesterday, the Nerazzurri will be facing Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sheriff Tiraspol in Group D.

The Spanish giants have been given a 90% chance of progressing, unsurprising considering their European pedigree, and Inter are the second favourites, with 60%.

Their biggest opponents for a second place finish are Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, who are coached by former Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi. They have a 40% chance, according to Caressa.

Inter’s rivals AC Milan are in one of the toughest groups this season, having to play Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Porto. Despite the difficulty of Group B, Caressa still gives the Rossoneri a 50% chance to progress.

The Nerazzurri’s first Champions League game of the season is against Real Madrid on 15th September, after the upcoming international break.

Last season coach Simone Inzaghi guided Lazio to the Champions League Round of 16, something he’ll be hoping to at least match this season.
