Inter defender Milan Skriniar is happy to have gotten off to a winning start to the season before the international break, and especially glad to have done so in front of fans.

Speaking to Slovak news outlet SportNet, the 26-year-old expressed his joy at being able to score in front of the San Siro crowd for the first time in well over a year during the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener against Genoa.

Last season Inter enjoyed a strong campaign, winning the Scudetto for the first time in eleven years, but the triumph was accompanied by some bittersweet feelings due to the fact that it was entirely accomplished in front of empty stands.

This season, the team will have the fans back cheering them on, and the Slovak centre-back keenly feels the difference that this makes to the emotional side of the game.

The club have won their first two matches of the season before the international break, and while they’ll know that this is only the beginning of a long and testing season, the early triumphs have felt all the more emphatic due to the presence of fans.

“The preparations were very good, we imagined we’d start the season this way,” said the defender, “And I finally scored a goal in front of the San Siro with the public allowed in.”
