Former Inter President Massimo Moratti has no intention of making a return to his former club, and has denied rumours that he intends to purchase a minority stake in the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper la Repubblica in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former President made clear that there is no substance to rumours from Spanish media that he was considering a return to Inter.

Moratti began selling his stake in Inter in 2013 before completely divesting from the club in 2016, ending a two-decade period in which, as President, he oversaw a period of success culminating in the 2010 Treble, and he has since remained outside of the club.

The former President remains passionate about his former club and regularly comments on the Nerazzurri who he is still a supporter of, but he has no interest in making a return to holding a stake at the club amid uncertainty over the ownership of Suning.

“Holding a minority stake in a football club is of little use,” he explained.

“At the moment I don’t think the conditions are right for an Italian consortium to lead the club, regardless of me and my will.”

He went on, “Of course it would be nice if, in the event of a sale, the new ownership would be passionate.”

“To the Zhang family, Interisti must be grateful for how they have done things so far,” Moratti said of the Nerazzurri’s current owners.

On the InterSpac initiative for fan ownership at the Nerazzurri, he stated, “We’ll see. The promoters are very motivated, it will be necessary to understand how they will go forward.

“It is an initiative to which I look at with interest.”
