Inter-owned wing-back Valentino Lazaro has finally completed his loan move to Portuguese giants Benfica, and he is looking forward to proving himself in the Portuguese capital.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the 25-year-old’s agent Max Hagmayr spoke of his client’s happiness at having his future confirmed and at his desire to show his best form for the Lisbon-based club.

Lazaro has been out of favour at Inter, having failed to cement a starting place for himself since joining from Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2019 and spending the second half of his first season on loan with Newcastle United before spending last season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach.

A number of clubs showed an interest in bringing Lazaro in for this season when he returned to the Nerazzurri this summer, but it was Benfica who made the strongest push for him and in the end they have wrapped up a loan move for him before the end of the window.

His agent stated that “Valentino is enthusiastic about his new adventure with Benfica. For him it is a restart, a new chapter in his career. He wants to push himself and improve, he starts on an important path that we hope will lead him to great achievements.”

Hagmayr explained that Lazaro is “very well [physically], he is ready to make himself available to the new coach and play.”

On Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, he said, “He talked to us before leaving, he got on well with him in the pre-season, he wished Valentino all the best.”
