Udinese Technical Director Pierpaolo Marino believes that Inter are among the favourites for the Scudetto in spite of the losses that they endured over the summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia yesterday, the Udinese executive gave the view that the work done by the Nerazzurri and by CEO Beppe Marotta in particular has positioned the club well to compete and defend their Italian title from last season.

Inter won the Scudetto at a canter in the end last season, finishing twelve points clear of their nearest rivals in the table AC Milan, but the summer of upheaval which saw Antonio Conte, Achraf Hakimi, and Romelu Lukaku all depart has led many observers to question whether they could repeat the form they showed last season.

However, despite many significant outgoings during the summer transfer window, the Nerazzurri also brought in new signings and an exciting new coach in the form of former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi, and their early form has been highly encouraging for fans.

“The sale of Lukaku was a very important operation,” said Marino, “Inter have adjusted the balance and have also strengthened the team, as demonstrated by the first two days.”

On the end of the transfer window he suggested that Milan will make a refinement to their squad, I don’t think big names will move.”

On who he felt did the best business over the summer he stated, “It is shown on the pitch, if I have to give my view I would say Inter.”

“They lost Lukaku and built gave the club important financial support while also keeping some players,” he continued,” “They are still among the favourites for the Scudetto, and Marotta must be awarded for this.”
