Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is expected to start the Netherlands’ first match of the international break, a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Norway.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who give their predicted staring eleven for the Dutch side in the match and include the Nerazzurri man in the lineup.

De Vrij has established himself as a key man for the Nerazzurri since joining from Lazio in the summer of 2018, and he remains such for his country as well.

Head coach Louis Van Gaal returns for his third spell in charge of the Oranje, and he is expected to replace predecessor (and former Inter coach) Frank de Boer’s 3-5-2 formation with a 4-3-3 system.

New Inter signing Denzel Dumfries is expected to drop out of the eleven, having been a regular starter under de Boer including at the Euros, and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is expected to take his place in the team.

Alongside de Vrij, returning Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk is expected to start, as Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt is suspended after his red card against the Czech Republic during the Euros.

The expected lineup is:

Goalkeeper: Tim Krul

Defenders: Daley Blind, Virgil Van Dijk, Stefan de Vrij, Jurrien Timber

Midfielders: Ryan Gravenberch, Frenkie de Jong, Georginio Wijnaldum

Forwards: Donyell Malen, Wout Weghorst, Memphis Depay
