Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi could look to put his injury setbacks of the past two seasons behind him under new head coach Simone Inzaghi.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the new manager could play the 26-year-old in a slightly altered role to keep him fit and fresh.

Sensi joined Inter in the summer of 2019 from Sassuolo, but despite showing numerous flashes of his talent, the midfielder has never managed to put together a solid run of form as he has frequently been interrupted by injury setbacks.

With the player’s talent still held in high regard within the club, Inzaghi has given himself the task of not only getting the best out of the midfielder, but of ensuring that he can contribute consistently without repeated injuries.

To this end, a key project for the season has been the special training and guidance of the former Sassuolo midfielder on his fitness.

“Inzaghi has shown particular attention to Sensi,” the Gazzetta writes, “also in terms of training tailored to the midfielder. Time will tell if it will last, in the past too often the disappointment has been strong.”

They continue, “Certainly, Sensi is the extra option for the role given to Calhanoglu, while not yet a viable way as seen in the match with Genoa as an attacking midfielder behind a single striker. “
