Former Inter President Massimo Moratti has given his views on former and current Nerazzurri head coaches, praising the job done by current manager Simone Inzaghi and opening up about current Roma boss Jose Mourinho’s time in charge of Inter.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Vocegiallorossa.it, the former President gave his views on Mourinho, who he worked together with to guide the Nerazzurri to an historic Treble during the 2009-10 season.

Since leaving Inter, the Portuguese coach has worked at Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, but this season he has made his return to Serie A to take charge of the Giallorossi.

Roma and Inter are two of five teams to have gotten six points from six in their opening two Serie A matches, and both look to have made successful managerial appointments at this early stage of the season.

Inter manager Inzaghi cannot yet boast the kind of record which Mourinho had with the Nerazzurri, but Moratti is completely happy with the job that he has done so far.

On the appointment of Mourinho as Roma coach, Moratti stated that “I thought that it was remarkable of Roma to appoint him. I think Roma are the perfect club for him right now.”

On the Portuguese manager’s presence behind the scenes, Moratti said that “Mourinho never interefered with the club’s transfer business. He always conducted himself perfectly. He never got obsessive with my running of the club.”

On whether the Nerazzurri are Scudetto favourites once again, he stated “For good luck I say that there are other teams. Inter are in good shape. They have a great coach and are rebuilding the team, and they are playing good football thanks to him.”

Asked about whether Mourinho has any major flaws, the former President joked that “The only flaw is that he does not eat salmon. It is his weakness. All kidding aside, he is a total professional who should always be admired.”

“He is such a serious guy, and I am very glad that Roma have appointed him, and him and I am sure that he will do well there.”

“He said one thing that’s very true,” Moratti said of the Portuguese tactician’s time at Inter. “He made history with the club.”

On the Giallorossi owners the Friedkins, he said “The are very serious and generous. They care about the club, they’re passionate and this is good for Roma.”

“I will certainly be following Roma and enjoying them for a lot of reasons,” said Moratti, “but the main reason is that Mourinho is coaching them.”
