Chilean national team head coach Martin Lasarte feels that his side were hard done by in last night’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil, and that a penalty should have been given for a challenge on Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Speaking after the match, as reported by L’Interista, Lasarte gave his view that the 34-year-old was fouled in the penalty area, and that it was wrong for no penalty to have been awarded.

Chile lost last night’s match by a scoreline of 1-0, reflecting a competitive match, and the manager feels that they should have had a chance for a better result in the form of a spot kick.

After Vidal was brought down in the penalty area by Brazil midfielder Casemiro the referee waved play on feeling that the challenge had been a fair one, but Lasarte is of the view that the Inter man had been fouled by the Brazilian.

“In my opinion, it was a penalty on Vidal and it was clear. Apart from that, we dropped off a bit after a very good start, but overall the performance was there.”
