Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is glad that his country Argentina were able to win their first World Cup qualifier of the international break against Venezuela, and that he was the one to open the scoring in a 3-1 win.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TYC Sports after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the praised the Albiceleste’s team victory and performance, and stated that he is already looking forward to their clash with Brazil this weekend.

The CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Venezuela was characterized by controversy after an incident in which Venezuelan defender Adrian Martinez was sent off for a nasty tackle on Argentine captain Lionel Messi.

The Inter man is happy to have bagged an important goal in the Albiceleste’s pursuit of the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, and he is already looking ahead to their encounter with great rivals of Brazil.

“The match against Brazil will be beautiful,” he said. “They are always unique matches, we want to prepare as best we can and play as we did in the Copa America final.”

He went on, “For a striker scoring a goal is always important, but the most important thing is the team victory. We must always think about the collective.”

“Today we played an excellent first match, regardless of their red card. After taking the lead, we found more space and managed to take home the three points.”
