Former striker Darko Kovacevic believes that the Scudetto race will be a tight affair this season, and that Inter will face competition from multiple rivals.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoJuve, the 47-year-old gave his view that there are six clubs in Serie A who have a realistic chance of winning the Scudetto this year, and that the Nerazzurri are only one.

Inter won the league at a canter in the end last season, finishing twelve points clear of their closest rivals in the table AC Milan on their way to their first Scudetto triumph in eleven years.

This season looks to be a different matter, however, with a number of major changes in the playing and coaching staff of virtually every major club in Serie A leading to a much different environment at the top of the league.

Five teams have taken six points from six in their opening two games while Juventus started slow in their bid to wrestle back their crown after having their nine-season Scudetto streak broken by the Nerazzurri last season, though Kovacevic still considers the Bianconeri to be well in the mix for this season’s crown.

“There are teams like Inter, Milan, Lazio, Roma and Napoli who have managed to reduce the gap with Juventus over the past few seasons, and will all be fighting for the final success of Serie A.”
